Did you know that volunteering is a great way to give back while at the same time gaining new perspectives and meeting new friends? If you’re searching for volunteer opportunities near Elk Grove Village, here are three organizations close to Marquette at Willow Crossing that help people and animals in need:
American Red Cross
Ninety percent of the Red Cross workforce are volunteers. Established in 1881 by Clara Barton, this organization received its first congressional charter in 1900. To this day, it continues to provide support to American troops and their families. The Red Cross also works to hold blood drives and assist people displaced by natural disasters. Three chapters make up the American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois. Combined, they help 9.5 million people in 21 counties.
The volunteers work in several areas, and a recruiter helps everyone find the right fit based on time, skills, and interests.
Named after a beloved collie, the Buddy Foundation provides a safe haven for abused, neglected, or unwanted animals. This no-kill shelter cares for both cats and dogs until they find loving families. It opened in 1995 after a group of concerned citizens decided to raise awareness of homeless pets.
The shelter is run solely by volunteers. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many commit to working two to three hours every week. Duties depend on one’s interests and may include preparing meals, walking dogs, and transporting the animals to veterinary appointments.
NCH Busse Center
Committed to excellence, the NCH Busse Center features advanced technology and nationally recognized physicians. It opened in the 1950s, and remains committed to offering the quality care and convenience that patients look for in a healthcare provider. The center treats approximately 20,000 inpatients every year and also provides an array of outpatient services.
NCH has nearly 800 individuals who donate their time in over 80 departments. They work at least four hours a week for a minimum of six months. Opportunities include assisting with pet therapy, operating the care cart, and greeting visitors at the emergency entrance.
